Volunteer

We were originally one person who was on a mission to help as many people as possible.

That person spent many years donating nearly all resources of both time and money to the vision of helping people to acquire their own Service Dogs to assist with overcoming the challenges faced as a result of their disabilities.

Service Dogs were trained and donated to individuals who were not able to train their own Service Dog, but due to the time and effort required to fully train a Service Dog, one trainer alone can not even begin to fill the huge need. Still, a number of lives were changed for the better, and there is no way to measure that priceless gift!

Being a dog trainer, and learning that the ADA law allows a person to train his or her own Service Dog, our founder focused much effort into teaching people how to train their own Service Dogs.

Training their own dogs allowed more people to get the help they needed sooner, without waiting for a Service Dog to be trained for them. People are often on waiting lists for years, because there are not nearly enough pre-trained dogs in presently existing training facilities to fill the need for Service Dogs. Even if everyone could afford to pay the (usually very high) price of a fully trained Service Dog, there are not enough to go around.

Although teaching people to train their own Service Dogs was able to provide help to more people, there was still a limit to the number of students which our founder was able to coach personally herself.

It was very discouraging to see the great need and be limited due to lack of time, money and other resources.

It was suggested that perhaps forming a nonprofit would be the way to go, so that with more people helping, more people could be helped – because as they say, “Many hands make light work!”

Of course, forming and maintaining a nonprofit is not easy to do either, but with perseverance and much hard work, we will bring into reality the vision of our founder.

We plan to carry on her life mission, multiplied many times over (even after she can no longer personally contribute) so that her dream can live on and continue to provide a new lease on life to many who might otherwise be without hope.

How are we going to do the things that we plan to for those who have or need service dogs?

First, we must establish a list and description of the volunteer positions that will make Your Service Dog Inc. work like a well-oiled machine.

Second, we must locate and place dedicated, people who share our dream.

Third, we will train our volunteers and give you the tools needed in order to be successful!

Fourth, now begins “boots on the ground”. This is where our volunteer teams (each doing their particular part) begin the magic by helping us tell the world what we are going to so, seeking funding so that we CAN provide our services (maybe to YOU), and then focusing their teams efforts either locally, where they live or worldwide by supporting our online services or hands on services.
