After five dogs fell ill and one died during the Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food recall less than a year ago, now another pet food maker is being accused of using pets to make pet food.
ABC news station WJLA-TV tested two-dozen brands of pet food for the euthanasia drug pentobarbital, the drug used to euthanize cats & dogs. After months of tests and re-tests, one brand made by Big Heart, the makers of milkbones, repeatedly came back positive for pentobarbital.
Big Heart Brands is also the maker of Meow Mix, Milk Bone, Kibbles’n Bits, 9 Lives, Natural Balance, Pup-Peroni, Gravy Train, Nature’s Recipe, Canine Carry Outs, Milo’s Kitchen, Alley Cat, Jerky Treats, Meaty Bone, Pounce and Snausages.
